The Millennium Development Goals

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are eight international development goals to be achieved by 2015, agreed by 23 international organisations and 192 countries.

The DAC's work is intrinsically linked to supporting the MDG effort, specifically through work related to each individual international development goal, monitoring and evaluation, aid effectiveness, and conflict prevention, peacebuilding and statebuilding.

The MDGs consist of eight goals and 18 concrete targets for development: these include reducing extreme poverty, reducing child mortality rates, fighting disease epidemics, and developing a global partnership for development. In goal 8, The MDGs underline the responsibility of developing countries to pursue poverty reduction and good governance, and of developed countries to support the efforts of developing countries; by increasing aid, opening trade to exports from developing countries, and providing debt relief.
